Extraction method: Steam distillation
DESCRIPTION:
Our Agarwood Essential
Oil is obtained from the extraction of agarwood core from NTB (West Nusa
Tenggara) using the steam distillation method. The oil produced is a clear to
thick liquid with a golden brown to dark brown color. This oil has a
distinctive aromatic, sweet, sensual and warm woody aroma. The raw materials
used are trees that have been infected with parasitic fungi (Phialophora
parasitica and others) which are the source of this rare and very valuable
material. Infected trees will produce oleoresin that, after a few years,
becomes dark and highly aromatic. Oleoresin accumulates to such an extent that
the mass and density of infected wood causes it to sink in water. Agarwood oil
has become popular as the base ingredient for the legendary Arabic perfume
called Oud[1,2,6].
BOTANICAL AT A
GLANCE:
Agarwood is known by
the scientific name Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk., which belongs to the
Thymelaeaceae family. Agarwood is generally found growing in plain primary and
secondary forest habitats, and grows well along hillsides and ridges, up to a
height of 750 m. The distribution of this tree extends from the Indian
continent to Myanmar, the Malay Peninsula and Kalimantan Island, as well as the
Philippines. The source tree for our
Agarwood essential oil comes from NTB (West Nusa Tenggara) which is harvested
and replanted periodically to ensure it is sustainable. They were manually
inoculated when they reached 10 years of age; After being infected, it is
allowed to propagate for 2 years, the tree is harvested for distillation.
Agarwood/ Agarwood
(Aquilaria Malaccensis) is a tree that grows up to 50 meters with a trunk
diameter of approximately 60 cm. This plant takes a minimum of 10 years to grow
fully. The wood is one of the most valuable woods in the world. The essential
oil obtained from this tree is very fragrant and the most expensive. Various
species can grow in Indonesia (Aceh, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Papua and
Sumbawa). Type & variety, geographical location, part of the tree, length
of time of infection (sap comes out when the stem is injured), and harvesting
and processing methods influence the aromatic quality of gaharu essential oil
[3].
