Cardamom is known as the "queen of spices" in cooking due to its popular use in various dishes, as it has a distinctive aroma. Our Cardamom Oil is obtained from the cardamom seed extraction process through steam distillation, and undergoes a long drying process (more than 3 months), to obtain the best chemical elements before extraction. The oil produced is a colorless to pale yellow liquid and has a strong, calming, characteristic cardamom aroma, soft aroma and is safe for children. Cardamom can overcome digestive and respiratory problems. Cardamom can also treat nasal congestion, eliminate bad breath, flu, coughs and headaches[1,2].

BOTANICAL OVERVIEW:

The cardamom plant comes from the Zingiberaceae (meeting) family whose natural habitat is endemic to hills or medium areas with high humidity [3]. Cardamom (cardamom) has 2 types, namely Elettaria and Amomum. The Elettaria type of cardamom grows mostly in India and is known as green cardamom, while the Amomum type of cardamom, found in several parts of Asia, is known as Javanese cardamom, Bengal cardamom, white cardamom, brown cardamom, brown cardamom, red cardamom, and Siamese cardamom[1].

Cardamom grows to about 13 feet tall; has tall stems with lance-shaped leaves and yellowish-white flowers. Cardamom flowers eventually produce seed pods containing essential oils. Cardamom is botanically similar to ginger and therefore can be used as an alternative essential oil because it has similar therapeutic properties to ginger essential oil[4].

HISTORY:

Cardamom is considered to be one of the oldest spices in the world. The use of this spice dates back at least 4000 years. The ancient Egyptians used Cardamom for many medicinal purposes, as part of rituals and even for embalming. They chew cardamom pods as a way to help keep their breath fresh and help clean their teeth. The Greeks and Romans used cardamom because of its pungent aroma. It is the main ingredient in perfumes and aromatic oils. Vikings first discovered this spice during their travels and brought it back to Scandinavia. Cardamom originally comes from wild plants located in the Western Ghats of South India. Plants grow so abundantly in this region that this area is known as Cardamom Hills. During the 19th century, cardamom plantations were established by British colonialists and this is where most of the green and black cardamom we use today is located. Guatemala is the largest commercial producer of cardamom[4,5].
