Description:
Cedar wood oil has a long history of application and an even wider list of beneficial properties that have made it a very popular ingredient in a wide variety of sectors. Despite what its name seems to indicate, it is not only obtained from trees of the genus Cedrus, but can also be obtained from distilled wood, leaves, berries or bark of various types of trees belonging to the evergreen leaf group. Essential oils from trees such as Chinese cypress (Cupressus funebris), Atlas cypress (Cedrus atlantica) and Virginia red juniper (Juniperus Virginiana) also fall into this category. The essential oil of Atlas cedar will generally give a professional a much more balsamic, more subtle woody smell than that of Virginia red juniper, which has a fresher, drier scent. Even with the variety of shades available, cedarwood essential oil is generally characterized by its woody aroma, which forms part of the background of many fragrances, lingers over time and supports the fixation of other olfactory notes.
