HISTORY:

Chamomile is one of the most ancient medicinal herbs known to mankind. Its history dates back to the ancient Egyptians who dedicated it to their Gods for its healing properties, especially when used for the treatment of acute fever, which at that time was known as Ague. Although first believed to be a gift from Ra, the Egyptian Sun God, Chamomile was previously used in ancient Egypt as part of the embalming oil used to embalm Pharaohs in their tombs and as a skin treatment by noble women, as shown in hieroglyphs.

Chamomile was also used by the Romans in medicines, drinks, and incense. The Anglo-Saxons considered Chamomile among the nine sacred plants and used it for ceremonies as well as for healing. During the Middle Ages, the Roman Chamomile species was used as a sprinkling herb, essentially helping to create a fresh and fragrant atmosphere at public gatherings and celebrations. When stepped on, the oil sacs in the flowers release their fruity aroma into the air. Chamomile was also added to beer for its bitter taste during the Middle Ages, but was later replaced with hops. Chamomile cultivation began in the 16th century, and later, Chamomile became a mainstay of doctors in Europe and the United States, because of its various health benefits[2].
