DESCRIPTION:

Chili (Capsicum annum Linn) is a plantation crop and is used as traditional medicine. Our chili essential oil is obtained from the extraction of chili seeds using the Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SCFE) method. The oil produced is a slightly thick, reddish-brown liquid with a strong and spicy aroma typical of chili seeds. Chili oil uniquely warms and stimulates the skin and is used to relieve sore muscle tension and prepare muscles for exercise. You need to be careful when using this oil, because the concentration is very strong and can irritate the skin and even cause blisters [1,2,3].

BOTANICAL AT A GLANCE:

Chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is an economical horticultural commodity. Chili is a herbaceous plant from the eggplant family which has the scientific name Capsicum sp. Chili originates from the American continent, specifically Peru, and has spread to countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia, including Indonesia [4]. Chilies are grouped into two groups, namely large chilies or red chilies (Capsicum anunum L.) and small chilies or cayenne peppers (Capsicum frutescens). Chili plants can grow well from the lowlands to the highlands with a soil acidity of 5.5 – 6.5. Almost all types of soil are suitable for planting chilies, both in paddy fields, moors, seashores and mountains. Chilies are not only used for processed food but are also used in traditional medicine [5].

HISTORY:

Around 3000 BC, the people of South and Central America first cultivated the spicy and hot type of Capsicum, namely chili. In 1493 chili seeds were brought back to Europe by Columbus. From Europe this spice spread to many cuisines throughout the world. Pre-Hispanic Americans claimed that spices also contained many medicinal properties. Medical researchers in Western countries are currently using chili seeds and oil to fight cancer. In China, chili oil refers to a series of unregistered regional recipes, which is a basic spice for many dishes in various cuisines. Production began at the end of the Ming Dynasty, when chilies were first introduced from Latin America. Until now, chili oil is still used in the food industry and pharmaceutical industry [6,7].
