This information is for external/topical use purposes only and is not intended to replace prescribed medication or professional medical advice or to diagnose any type of health condition.
Never ingest essential oils and remember to dilute them with a suitable carrier oil such as Jojoba oil or coconut oil. This is due to the fact that organic and pure essential oils are highly concentrated liquids and direct use of essential oils on the skin can cause allergic reactions. Caution should be taken if you are a breastfeeding or pregnant mother. Keep out of reach of children.
Speak with your healthcare practitioner before selecting an essential oil that is appropriate for your health situation and unique individual constitution.
THERAPEUTIC
BENEFITS:
The many benefits of
the essential oils in eucalyptus can be unlocked through the general practice
of aromatherapy.
Diffusing this
powerful and refreshing aroma throughout your home can help relieve symptoms of
congestion as well as provide a purifying atmosphere to help and cool the body.
Mix 5-7 drops of oil with water and add to an oil burner or diffuser for a fresh,
powerful scent. Since eucalyptus is an expectorant, applying a few drops to a
bowl of hot steam and placing your head on it with a towel can also help
relieve cold and flu symptoms. Alternatively, you can simply hold a bottle of
eucalyptus essential oil to your nose and inhale slowly or add a few drops to a
tissue or cotton ball for on-the-go aromatherapy[7].
USES AND BENEFITS:
• The aroma of Eucalyptus is very refreshing and is suitable for diffusing into the air, outdoor spray, joint and muscle massage, chest rub, foot lotion, as well as preparations for scalp and oily skin.
• In soap formulations, this oil is said to increase the diffusion ability of other aromatics combined with it.
• Eucalyptus Globulus Essential Oil is most recommended at the first signs of a cold or flu to help support healthy lung function and boost the immune system.
• Eucalyptus Globulus Essential Oil is often used to reduce the activity of unwanted bacteria, fungi, or viruses.
• topically or in a spritzer as an insect repellent.
• Eucalyptus Globulus can also help with mild pain and inflammation management, as well as relieve unwanted muscle spasms.
• Can stimulate healthy circulation thereby bringing a feeling of warmth to the body[6,7].

[1,2].
BOTANICAL AT A
GLANCE:
Eucalyptus globulus
originates from southeastern Australia, including the island of Tasmania, this
plant is one of the most widely planted hardwood species in world forestry and
is naturalized on several continents. In California, Eucalyptus globulus has
been grown for more than 150 years. This plant lives in warm temperate and
subtropical zones, sometimes cultivated at altitudes of up to 3,100 meters in
tropical areas. It grows best in areas with annual daytime temperatures ranging
from 18 - 23°C, but can tolerate 6 - 30°C[3,4].
HISTORY:
Eucalyptus oil is prominent
in Aboriginal tribes. Touted as a cure for all diseases, eucalyptus trees are
harvested and adapted by many people. There are 700 varieties of eucalyptus.
Each has been used in a variety of crafts and arts, from papermaking, fuel use,
and malaria eradication. Because of their thick root systems, eucalyptus trees
were domesticated and planted to drain and purify swamps.
The main use of
Eucalyptus was first discovered by Baron Ferdinand von Muller, who intended to
use eucalyptus oil as an antiseptic. In 1955, eucalyptus seeds were sent to
Algeria by the French government to turn malaria-ridden swamps into dry,
healthy soil. The oil became popular in World War 1, when it quelled an
outbreak of meningitis during the 1919 influenza epidemic.
Eucalyptus is widely grown in Spain, China, South Africa, Portugal, Chile and Russia. Eucalyptus oil is extracted as an essential oil and used for respiratory treatment. The oil became a popular household remedy for boils, burns, and wounds. Modern use of eucalyptus oil still extends to medical treatments, but its pleasant aroma makes it valuable in both the world of beauty and health[5,6].
