DESCRIPTION:
Gurjun Dark is often
known as "Gurjun Balsam", and is identified by the botanical name
Dipterocarpus Turbinatus. Our Gurjun Dark essential oil is obtained from the
extraction of keruing tree gum wood via steam distillation. The oil produced is
a pale yellow to dark brown liquid with a balsamic, woody and sweet aroma.
The aromatherapy
benefits of Gurjun Dark essential oil are related to breathing. Based on
pharmacological research that has been carried out on Dipterocarpus, the
content of these secondary metabolite compounds shows interesting biological
activity and pharmacological effects such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory,
cytotoxic and antifungal [1,2,3].
BOTANICAL AT A
GLANCE:
Keruing (Dipterocarpus
spp.) is a tree that has high economic value and is distributed in Southeast
Asia. The keruing tree rises up to 40 m tall and is large with a diameter of up
to 100 cm. The stem has a rough outer skin that peels into long, brown strips.
The outer layer of papaga is dark red and the inner layer is yellowish white.
The twigs, supporting leaves, leaf buds, lower surface of the leaves, and
petioles have slightly rough hair with a golden brown color. Number of pairs of
secondary leaf veins and folds between pairs of real leaf veins. The
inflorescences are cluster-shaped, short, sometimes branched, with few flowers
and medium-sized flowers. The fruit is elliptical, medium sized, five-cornered,
sharp, stretches from top to bottom, hairy with a golden brown color, and has
almost no stem. The two main petals are large and the three small petals are
short [4,5].
HISTORY:
Beyond its uses in Ayurvedic medicine, insight into the history of gurjun oil is quite limited. Gurjun Oil is a paradox, simultaneously explored and unexplored. This oil has been used for centuries, but we still have much to learn about the medicinal and aromatic applications of this gentle petroleum[6].
