Our Lemongrass essential oil comes from the mountains of Central Java, Indonesia. BOTANY
Cymbopogon flexuosus, also called Cochin grass, East Indian lemongrass or Malabar grass, is a perennial grass native to India, Sri Lanka, Burma, and Thailand. It is placed in the genus Cymbopogon (lemongrass). It belongs to the plant family Poaceae. The herb is a tall perennial grass that grows in areas with warm temperatures. The leaves of this herb are long, green, glaucous, and linear that taper upwards. It is a kind of short day plant and produces abundant flowers. Lemongrass herbs are commonly known by the names of lemongrass, tanglad, gavati chaha, barbed wire grass, hierba luis.
USAGE HISTORY
In India, C. citratus is used both as a medicinal herb and as a perfume. C. citratus is consumed as a tea for anxiety in traditional Brazilian medicine, but a human study found no effect. Tea caused a recurrence of contact dermatitis in one case. In the Caribbean, tea is also brewed and consumed to boost immunity.
