Grapefruit (Citrus Paradisi) essential oil is most often used in aromatherapy as a focus remedy because it contains a sharp, watery aroma that is thought to awaken the mind and increase energy. Grapefruit EO obtained from the skin by hydrodistillation provides an inhibitory effect against bacteria and fungi, and can be further developed for the treatment of certain diseases. Grapefruit EO has demonstrated important antioxidant activity for food preservation and disease prevention. According to research, Grapefruit EO extracted by hydrodistillation has antioxidant activity using the DPPH and FRAP tests. In fact, grapefruit extract (a mixture of EO and other nonvolatile phytochemicals) can also inhibit the growth and proliferation of cancer cells such as neuroblastoma, leukemia, and prostate and lung cancer lines.
