DESCRIPTION:

Jatropha essential oil varies greatly according to the origin and cultivation area of the Jatropha curcas plant. Very high oil content is contained in seeds grown in areas with tropical climates.

Our Jatropha oil is obtained from the extraction of Jatropha curcas seeds (Jatropha Curcas Linn) using the Super Critical Fluid Extraction (SCFE) method. The resulting oil is a yellow liquid with a characteristic light and spicy castor aroma and is known for its moisturizing and nourishing properties.

The fat composition of this oil consists of palmitic acid around 15-17%, stearic acid around 6-8%, oleic acid around 30-44%, linoleic acid around 0.3%, and also arachidic acid around 0.3%. The remaining 30-52% is made from linoleic acid[1,2,3].

BOTANICAL AT A GLANCE:

Jatropha curcas (Jatropha curcas) is a plant that originates from Mexico and now grows widely in tropical and subtropical areas in Latin America, Asia and Africa. Castor beans generally contain 27–40% oil, rich in palmitic acid (C16:0, 13.4–15.3%), oleic acid (C18:1, 34.3–45.8%), and linoleic acid ( C18:2, 29.0–44.2%). The genus Jatropha belongs to the tribe Jatropheae in the family Euphorbiaceae and contains about 170 known species. The botanical name of the genus Jatropha comes from the Greek words “Jatros” which means doctor and “trophe” which means food which combines the history of the medicinal use of this plant. J. curcas L is a dense shrub or small tree 3–5 m high[4,5,6].

HISTORY:

Jatropha Curcas (Jatropha Curcas L.) is a perennial succulent shrub native to Central America. Jatropha has existed in Indonesia since the time of Dutch and Portuguese settlement. Jatropha is widespread and consists of about 400 ecotypes. In the early 2000s, the potential of jatropha received widespread global attention as a promising biofuel raw material. Jatropha is promoted as a biofuel feedstock option with critical advantages over the conventional biodiesel alternative, palm oil, due to its non-edible characteristics and ability to grow productively on marginal lands addressing the risks of direct trade-offs of 'food versus fuel' and land grabbing. productive agriculture[7,8].
