Description:

Lavandula species are flowering plants common in Europe and throughout the Mediterranean. Lavender has many health benefits for humans. In addition to its use in herbal medicine, this plant is widely used in cosmetics, perfumes, food, and aromatherapy.

Lavender essential oil is extracted from the flowers by steam distillation method. The resulting oil is colorless and has a distinct lavender aroma. Various genera of Lavandula have been used both cosmetically and therapeutically for centuries with the most commonly used species being L. angustifolia, L. latifolia, L. stoechas and L. x intermedia. The biological activity of lavender oil is demonstrated by scientific or clinical evidence, including antibacterial, antifungal, carminative, sedative, antidepressive, and effective for burns and insect bites.
