BOTANICAL AT A
GLANCE:
The Limau plant,
usually called limo, generally comes from Southeast Asia and South Asia. The
morphology of this orange, namely Limau or limo, has a tree in the form of a
small shrub with a height of 1-2 m, the fruit is small, namely 2-3 cm in
diameter. These Limau or limau leaves are compound leaves, and are green, thin
and have a fragrant aroma. This chili or lime flower is white and has a
fragrant aroma. Young orange fruit is green. As it gets older the fruit will
change color to yellow. This orange fruit has thick, wrinkled skin and a
fragrant aroma. The flesh of this limau fruit is white and has a sour
taste[3,4].
HISTORY:
Limau, also called limau
(lat. Citrus × amblycarpa) are oranges that are included as a cooking spice.
The drink given by limau will add to the fragrant aroma of the dish. Limau are
members of the citrus genus or citrus genus. The name limau comes from the
Betawi region, while the Javanese and Sundanese call this orange as limo
orange. Many people are wrong about this orange, thinking that lime or limau is
the same as lime. Limau/limo oranges/sambal oranges are almost similar to
kaffir limes, but they are smaller. Usually used to add flavor to chili sauce
or in somay seasoning. Limau are smaller in size than kaffir limes.
Limau originate from
Southeast Asia and India, and this plant was brought by Arab and Persian
traders to the Middle East and Europe around the 10th century. Then the orange
population spread to the Mediterranean and America. Lime essential oil is
produced through the distillation or cold-press method from orange peel or
fruit which will produce a yellow oil with a distinctive fresh and sharp lime
aroma.
Limau oil has long been used in Ayurvedic medicine and traditional Southeast Asian medicine to treat various complaints, including digestive problems, infections and skin diseases. Limau are also thought to have antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and refreshing properties. In Ancient Egyptian culture, oil from citrus fruits and orange peels was often used for skin care and was thought to help maintain healthy skin from the effects of dry weather [3].
