This tree comes from
the Indomalaya realm, consisting of South Asia, Southeast Asia − Indochina, and
South China. The tree is found in the tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf
forests ecoregion, at elevations of 200–1,600 meters (660–5,250 ft).
This tree comes from
the Maldives, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, India, Malaysia, Myanmar,
Nepal, Thailand and Vietnam. In China, it originates from southern Tibet and
southern/southwestern Yunnan Province. Cempaka in Indonesia is known by several
regional names such as minjaran (Sumatra), arimot (Biak), cempaka rough forest
(Sulawesi), uru (Toraja), cempaka, wasian, adow, and ta'as (North Sulawesi).
The cempaka tree has a height of up to 25 m, with a trunk diameter of up to 50
cm, the leaves are egg-shaped spurs, sharp at the base and tip, the top is
flat, the bottom is smooth, the inner bud level is protected by protective
leaves, the flowers are fragrant, red-yellow, shaped like a tulip.
In 2021, an isolated
and possibly native population of M. champaca was identified in Yemen, making
M. champaca the only species in the Magnoliaceae known to inhabit the Arabian

HISTORY:
Magnolia essential oil
is known for its many health and relaxation benefits. It has been used for
centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine, where the plant originates. Magnolia
was named by the famous Swedish botanist Carl Linneaus in 1737 in honor of the
French botanist Pierre Magnol (1638-1715). But magnolias are one of the most
primitive plants in evolutionary history, and the fossil record shows that
magnolias existed in Europe, North America, and Asia more than 100 million
years ago.
The earliest western
records of Magnolia cultivation are found in Aztec history where there are
illustrations of what we now know as the rare Magnolia dealbata. This plant
only survives in a few places in the wild, and although climate change is the
main cause, the Aztecs cut off the flowers for festivals, and this prevented
the plant from going to seed. This plant was discovered by a Spanish explorer
named Hernandez in 1651.
There are about 80
species of Magnolia, and about half of them are tropical species. In its native
state, magnolia trees can grow up to 80 feet tall and 40 feet wide. They bloom
in spring, and their flowers reach their peak in summer. The petals are plucked
traditionally, and harvesters must use ladders or scaffolds to reach the
precious flowers.
The method for
obtaining magnolia oil can be done in several ways. Steam distillation is the
method used in China, and France uses a fractional distillation method in which
chemical compounds are separated by heating and distillation.
It is known that the essential oil from the bark of the magnolia tree is as beneficial as the flowers, used by Chinese healers to improve energy circulation. Magnolia oil has been used in aromatherapy for centuries, especially in China and Southeast Asia where the plant grows abundantly. Magnolia essential oil was and still is widely used in the perfumery industry. When sprayed or diffused in the air, magnolia provides a calm and serene atmosphere due to the delicate but light aroma of its flowers. Through a steam distillation process, Magnolia Essential Oil offers a powerful aroma. The large white petals are highly aromatic and are believed to inspire personal growth and renewal[7,8,9].
