Description:
Marjoram consists of two types of oil that are commonly sold: sweet marjoram (Origanum Majorana) and Spanish marjoram (Thymus Mastichina). Marjoram oil is produced from the flowers and sometimes the leaves of the Marjoram plant.
The method used to extract the oil is called steam distillation, which involves utilizing the steam above the plant in large steel drums, extracting the oil/water mixture, and re-cooling it so that the oil rises to the top. The steam distillation process is preferred as it does not add any chemicals or cause plant damage. Marjoram oil is a pale yellow oil with a delicate, fresh and slightly spicy aroma.
This oil is beneficial when used for asthma and other respiratory complaints and has a calming effect on the emotions. It helps hyperactive people calm down while increasing circulation.
