Description:

Citrus aurantium L., commonly called sour or bitter orange, is a tree that belongs to the Rutaceae family. C. aurantium L. is one of the most frequently used species for both traditional and modern medicinal purposes. Neroli oil is one of the most widely used floral oils in perfumery. Neroli essential oil is extracted from the fragrant flowers of the bitter orange tree by the steam distillation method, and the resulting oil is pale yellow to amber in color. It has a fresh, citrus scent. Research has highlighted that neroli oil from the flowers and leaves of C. aurantium L. is popularly used to treat digestive tract disorders, for its diuretic action against tachycardia and rheumatism and to minimize central nervous system disorders. In addition, C. aurantium L. is the plant most often used as a sedative in outpatient clinics.
