Nutmeg essential oil is extracted from the dried leaves or seeds of the Myristica fragrans tree, which is native to the Indonesian Spice Islands. The resulting oil is pale yellow in color and has a warm, spicy aroma characteristic of nutmeg. The main chemical components of nutmeg essential oil are sabinene, eugenol, myristicin, caryophyllene, β-myrcene, and α-pinene. Several experiments have confirmed the biological activity of the oil including antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antimalarial, anticonvulsant, hepatoprotective, antiparasitic, insecticide, and nematocidal.
