THERAPEUTIC
BENEFITS:
• Oil from Cinnamomum
parthenoxylon shows various benefits in scientific studies, especially its
antimicrobial and antioxidant activity. Studies have shown that the essential
oils of this species have bioactive components that are effective against a number
of pathogenic bacteria and fungi.
• In addition,
essential oils from the Cinnamomum family are generally known for containing
compounds such as eugenol and cinnamaldehyde, which have the potential to exert
anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and enzyme-inhibiting effects at the molecular
level. These components can help protect cells from oxidative damage and
support healthy skin and respiratory tract when used in aromatherapy or
topically in appropriate doses[16,17,18].
DISCLAIMER:
This information is
for external/topical use purposes only and is not intended to replace
prescribed medication or professional medical advice or to diagnose any type of
health condition.
Never ingest essential
oils and remember to dilute them with a suitable carrier oil such as olive oil
or coconut oil. This is due to the fact that organic and pure essential oils
are highly concentrated liquids and direct use of essential oils on the skin
can cause allergic reactions. Caution should be taken if you are a
breastfeeding or pregnant mother. Keep out of reach of children.
Speak with your
healthcare practitioner before selecting an essential oil that is appropriate
for your health situation and unique individual constitution.
USES AND
BENEFITS:
• Research shows that
this oil is effective in inhibiting the growth of several pathogenic bacteria
such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica, making it useful as an
antibacterial in natural medicine and the treatment of digestive tract
infections.
• Panangi oil has
potential as an anti-inflammatory, which can help reduce inflammation, and as
an antioxidant which protects the body from oxidative damage.
• In traditional
medicine, this oil is also used for respiratory and digestive problems.
• Panangi oil has
potential in the therapy of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's and
Parkinson's, although further studies are needed to fully understand the
benefits of this oil[11,12,13,14,15].

Extraction method:
Steam distillation
DESCRIPTION:
Our food oil is
obtained from the extraction of the inner wood of the Cinnamomum Parthenoxylon
(Pakanangi/Telasihan/Palio) plant using the steam distillation method. The oil
produced is a brownish liquid with a distinctive fragrant odor. Extracts of
leaves, bark, wood, and roots of C. parthenoxylon have antioxidant and
antibacterial effects that show potential for treatment. Sometimes this oil is
confused with sassafras oil which is distilled from plants, this is because the
aroma is similar due to the fairly high content of safrole in pangangi oil
[1,2,3].
BOTANICAL AT A
GLANCE:
Cinnamomum
parthenoxylon grows in tropical and subtropical forests, especially in
Southeast Asia such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam. This tree prefers areas
with warm, humid climates and fertile, well-drained soil. Cinnamomum
Parthenoxylon is a tree with a distinctive aroma that is commonly used as a
building material, aromatic and insect repellent.
Indonesian people know
this plant by various names such as Selasihan (Java), Huru Pedes (Sunda), Laso
(Minang), Pakanangi, Melana, Ki lemongrass, Rawali (Southeast Kalimantan),
Kepaleh (West Kalimantan). The basil or baikangi tree with the scientific name
Cinnamomum parthenoxylon is a type of tree from the Lauraceae family, this
plant has a strong and deep tap root. The trunk of the Cinnamomum parthenoxylon
tree is large and sturdy, gray or brownish in color with a rough and cracked
surface. This tree can grow to a height of 15-20 meters and is often used for
various construction and tooling purposes. The leaves are oval or oval, between
10-20 cm long and around 4-8 cm wide with small flowers, white to yellowish in
color, and grow in bunches at the ends of the branches. The fruit of this tree
is small round, green when young and turns purplish black when ripe.
[4,5,6,7,8,9].
HISTORY:
Cinnamomum
parthenoxylon oil, or baikangi oil, has a long history in traditional medicine
and has been applied for various uses, especially in Southeast Asia. The oil
from baikangi wood is renowned for its high content of safrole, a compound
historically used in perfumery and traditional medicine. Research in the early
20th century highlighted the use of this oil in Indonesia, where it was refined
and studied for its physical properties and potential benefits. The safrole
component, although now regulated due to safety concerns, was once commonly
used in small quantities for perfumery and medicinal purposes.
Traditionally, baikangi oil has been used in local medicinal practices to treat various ailments, although modern use is still limited and is often replaced by other forms of treatment based on camphor. In recent studies, other parts of the C. parthenoxylon plant, such as the leaves, have shown activity against termites and other pests, indicating potential agricultural applications beyond medicinal use[10,11].
