It is also believed that tangerines are able to control and stabilize the flow of energy in the body [1,2,3,4].

BOTANICAL OVERVIEW:

Citrus plants (Citrus sp.) are horticultural plants that have an important meaning as a source of income because they are included in national and international trade commodities. Tangerines (Citrus reticulata L.) are one of the three leading commercial oranges in Indonesia, namely Siamese oranges and pomelo oranges. Tangerines have advantages because of their sweet taste, soft flesh texture and lots of water. Generally, tangerines are a source of vitamin C which is very useful for human health. Tangerine juice contains 40-70 mg of vitamin C per 100 g of material. The older the orange, the lower its vitamin C content.

Morphologically, tangerine trees are 2-8 meters tall. The leaf stalks are very narrow to the point of being wingless, 0.5-1.5 cm long. The leaf blades are oval-shaped, elongated, elliptical or lanceolate with blunt tips, slightly curved inward, the edges are very weakly serrated with a length of 3.5-8 cm. The flowers have a diameter of 1.5-2.5 cm, are bisexual, the corolla is white. The fruit is shaped like a depressed ball with a length of 5-8 cm, the skin is 0.2-0.3 cm thick and the flesh is orange. The branches are thornless and the leaf stalks are 1-1.5 mm wide [5,6,7,8].

HISTORY:

Tangerine Oil is a powerful and potent essential oil that originates from China. It has been used for thousands of years throughout Chinese culture and alternative health practices. The oil itself has a sharp, sweet and citrusy aroma, with the botanical name Citrus reticulata. It has powerful antioxidants and has other bioactivities. The oil and fruit have been cultivated for over 3,000 years throughout China as well as Japan. The global popularity of the oil came in the 1800s when it first arrived in Europe. Tangerine peels as well as oils were used to treat a number of digestive disorders such as diarrhea, indigestion and vomiting due to nausea.

Tangerine Oil should not be confused with Orange Oil or Mandarin Oil, as although they are all from the same/similar family - their properties, aroma and overall composition are very different. For example, the harvest time is different, tangerines are harvested around November while mandarins are harvested in February.

Today, Tangerine Oil is widely available and is a popular essential oil throughout aromatherapy and has a number of beneficial properties when applied topically. A brand that frequently uses Tangerine Oil in its products is Aesop, which is known for its natural products and beautiful aroma[9,10,11].
