Thousands of years later, thyme's extraordinary healing properties are still being recognized, and thyme oil remains a popular ingredient in many facial cleansers, toothpastes, and mouthwashes.
Thyme oil is obtained by steam distillation from fresh flower parts of Thymus vulgaris L. The oil can vary in color from colorless, pale yellow to dark reddish brown. Thyme oil has an aromatic spicy odor which indicates that of thymol. Traditionally thyme has been used in medicinal, food and perfumery applications.
