Description:

Vetiver essential oil (VEO) has been used for centuries in northern India and then spread to Southeast Asia, China, the Middle East, West Africa and Europe. VEOs are used for religious and medical purposes (Maffei, 2002). VEO is made from the distillation process of the vetiver plant (Vetiveria zizanioides), especially the roots using the steam distillation method, the resulting oil is brown to dark brown. VEO has a promising role in the health or medical field. VEO can be applied in many products such as ointments, balms, creams, shampoos, soaps and aromatherapy. Indonesia is ranked as the third largest producer in the world but needs to improve quality, especially to treat smoky burning odors and pesticide contamination. VEO can be useful for children to old age. VEO can be developed as a topical and oral product.
