Description:
Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans Houtt) is one of the native Indonesian spices which has economic value and is versatile. This is because every part of the mace nutmeg plant can be used in various industries such as the food, medicine and cosmetic industries. Mace nutmeg oil is obtained from dry aryl extraction by steam distillation method, the main components produced from this extraction are α-pinene, sabinene, 2-β-pinene, and myristicin. The resulting oil is pale yellow to brown in color. Clinical and experimental investigations have confirmed the biological activity of mace nutmeg essential oil, namely antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antimalarial, anticonvulsant, hepatoprotective, antiparasitic, insecticide, and nematocidal from MFEO.
