Description:

Cubeb essential oil comes from the cubeb plant which grows a lot in Java and Sumatra. Kemukus (Piper cubeba), also known as Javanese pepper, or tailed pepper, or chini chini / kabab chini in Hindi is a plant in the genus Piper, cultivated for its fruit and essential oil. The fruits are collected before drying, carefully drying. Commercial cubeb consists of dried berries, similar to black pepper, but with an attached stem - "tail" in "tail pepper". The dry pericarp is wrinkled, and its color ranges from grayish brown to black. The seeds are hard, white and oily. The smell of cubeb is described as pleasant and aromatic, and the taste is pungent, sharp, slightly bitter and persistent. It tastes like allspice, or like a cross between allspice and black pepper.

Steamed essential oil contains sesquiterpenes, sesquiterpenic alcohols and small amounts of monoterpenes. It adds nice notes of pepper in soaps and fragrances and blends well with woody, ylang, clove and rosemary. It is extracted from dried Cubeb berries via the steam distillation method. Ripe fruit is dried and crushed and produces about 4-30% oil. The oil is colorless to light green with a pungent odor and sharp taste. Cubeb Essential Oil has calming properties and is used during stress and hypertension. It has anti-inflammatory properties which make it suitable for a variety of uses. It is widely used as an astringent and antiseptic.
